Name this DAO

Edit: The current poll has been closed, we'll open a new poll when more names have been submitted. In order for a name to be a valid entry for the new poll, it must be posted as a stand alone comment here and receive 5 or more likes. I will post the new poll Monday the 11th of April around midday UTC+10, so get your submissions in before then.

Edit: It turns out that I cannot add options to the poll after votes have been cast. So we'll use likes on comments in this section as a stand in for a true polling mechanism, until I figure out something a little more functional/elegant.

We ran a naming poll on the Slock.it slack to get a feel for some of the potential names for this DAO. But given that we only had about 35 votes, I think it would be worth while running a poll over a longer period of time to get a better feel for what we as a community like as a name for our DAO.

Please post any name suggestions as a reply to this topic (one suggestion per reply). Any suggestions with 5 or more likes will be added to the poll. Initially I'll include the 5 names with the most votes in the Slock.it poll.

This is THE DAO, without a doubt, but I think we want a better way to carve out the DAO's namespace, so we need to think about what will be returned in a google search. For this reason, I don't think that 'DAO' should be part of the name.

I think we also need limit the character set. Consider that the average person does not have great computer skills, and by definition, half the people have lessor skills. For this reason, I think we should have a simple character set.

My proposal: DA0

Even if you don't agree with the option, please 'like' this post to have it added to the list of options so that others can weigh in.

I don't think it's necessary to have a simple character set; how often do you see resumé spelled correctly? Honestly I don't really think there is a difference between DAO, ÐΑO, and ÐΑΩ. The latter two are just stylisations of the first and all three could be used interchangeably.
I'd like to see some more creative name suggestions. Perhaps even some that don't include the word DAO.
I quite like your suggestion of DA0, but again, it's really just a stylisation of DAO. I actually think ambiguous characters like O and 0 or I and l are more of an issue than non-standard characters.

Liked your post, one more and I'll add DA0 to the poll.

Just a suggestion that goes away from The DAO and its variations.

The DAO will be ambiguous in writing for other projects since "their" DAO can be referred to the DAO as well. And just like in the Star Wars universe there will always be something bigger, faster, more resourceful somewhere else and I think it's a good thing if the DAO used by Slock.it at least have some connection in its name.

Yeah, just an anagram for Slock. Something related to Slock.it but not the same, as the community and DAO shareholders have the possibility to move the whole thing from Slock.it UG to other service providers in the future. Also, given the probable size of the DAO it will probably finance other projects as well, and these will maybe have their own names.

The Closk was just the first thing that came to my mind, there are maybe other better suggestions as well?

But, I still don't think it is very smart to set the name to "The DAO" or its variations, and it should not be named "Slock" or "Slock.it".

Given the probable size of the whole thing I will suggest another name with historical/cultural references as well:

Looks like there's a Genesis DAO ( https://genesisdao.github.io/ ) listed in the State of the Dapps. It has its own Slack as well.

Confusing if there's more than one group going as 'GenesisDAO' or 'THE Dao', that aren't necessarily affiliated with each other. Or are they affiliated with each other?

It looks as if they have simply cloned slock.it's code. I don't see any indication that they have deployed it to the blockchain as of yet, so if they set the parameters correctly and announce deployment publicly, there is no reason genesis can't be "the" dao.

Right right. Well, the DAO will be all the token holders regardless of where they congregate, but it would be great to have as many token holders in one place so we are on the same page as possible.

I do like the name GenesisDAO though, and I've brought this forum to their attention if they want to also interact with other (future) DAO members.
